Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licences for Importation of Insulation Board.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the procedure for the issue of duty free licences for the importation of ½ inch insulation board; (b) the number of such licences issued under Tariff Reference No. 196/1; (c) the quantity involved; and (d) the persons or firms to whom such licences were issued, during the past twelve months.

Licences for the importation of ½ inch insulation board without payment of the protective duty are recommended only on production of documentary evidence from the Irish manufacturers of competing products that they are unable to supply a suitable substitute. Records are not kept in a form which would enable the information sought by the Deputy in relation to the number of licences issued and the quantities involved to be compiled without undue expenditure of official time.

It is not the practice to publish the names of those to whom duty-free licences are granted.
