Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civilian Employees in Curragh and Kildare.

45.

asked the Minister for Defence why the long-established rule of re-employing former civilian employees on the Curragh and in Kildare in preference to taking on men for the first time has recently been discontinued.

I am not aware that the established practice in relation to the recruitment of civilian employees has been departed from recently at the Curragh Camp or at Kildare. If the Deputy will furnish me with particulars of any such instance, I shall have the matter investigated.

Is the Minister not aware that not merely has the rule been departed from but that he has received a protest from the union concerned, and that, in addition, builders' labourers have been taken on at the Curragh Camp who were not previously employed and who were not at the time they were taken on even registered at the employment exchange?

No. On the contrary all employment is taken on through the local employment exchange.

Will the Minister investigate cases if he is given them?

I will, yes.
