Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in Galway.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands the proposals of the Forestry Division of his Department for County Galway for the present financial year.

A substantial programme of work is being undertaken at the 16 Galway Forests this year. So far it has been arranged that areas totalling 2,172 acres will be planted in Co. Galway in the 1961/62 planting season; further areas may be added later. Employment on pre-planting work and on general development and maintenance work is at present being provided for 400 men at the Galway Forests and employment will be maintained at the highest possible level during the year. Efforts to accelerate the acquisition of additional land for planting in the county will be continued.
