Vol. 191 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planting of South Kerry Forestry Centres.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands the acreage of land available for planting in the 1961-62 planting season in each of the forestry centres in South Kerry, including the Dingle Peninsula, and the acreage offered and still awaiting acquisition.

The provisional planting programme for 1961/62 for the six State Forests in South Kerry, including the Dingle Peninsula, totals 770 acres, distributed as follows:— Caherciveen 320 acres, Kenmare 166 acres, Kilgarvan 37 acres, Killarney 107 acres, Killorglin 73 acres and Castlegregory 67 acres. It is expected that other areas will be added to the programme later in the year. The balance of plantable lands held will be kept in reserve for planting in subsequent years.

The total area at present on offer to my Department for forestry purposes in the region is 17,838 acres.
