asked the Minister for Finance whether it is correct that the solicitor for the petitioner in the High Court proceedings in relation to the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1959, has presented a bill of costs totalling more than £11,000; and, if this is not the correct amount, if he will state the exact figure; further, whether the bill includes claims for payment to be made to members of the Oireachtas and, if so, the names of the members concerned, and the nature and amounts of the respective claims made on their behalf; and if he will state also if the bill has been sent for taxation; and what is the position to date regarding it.

A bill of costs totalling £11,444 2s. has been presented by the solicitor for the plaintiff in the High Court proceedings mentioned. The bill included the following claims for payment to members of the Oireachtas:

The bill also includes claims in respect of three members of the Oireachtas who were professionally engaged in the case but it would be contrary to the usual practice to give particulars of professional fees in respect of individual cases.

The bill has been sent for taxation but proceedings in relation to it have not yet concluded.
