Mr. Ryan
Participation by any person in the State in the betting scheme described in the circular referred to by the Deputy is regarded as a contravention of the Betting Act, 1931, which provides for the imposition of an excise penalty of £100 in respect of each offence. The Revenue Commissioners are taking appropriate steps to enforce the provisions of the Act in such cases.
