Vol. 191 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hotel Exemption Orders: Amendment of Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1960.

15.

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been drawn to a recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding the granting of exemption orders to hotels for dances; and if he will now take steps to permit an extension to owners of licensed premises in seaside and tourists resorts for the holiday season.

16.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether in view of the decisions of the Courts permitting departures in certain cases from the uniform hours of drinking permitted by the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1960, he will introduce legislation to amend the Act.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions 15 and 16 together.

My attention has been drawn to a recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding the granting of exemption orders to hotels for dances.

The Government does not at present contemplate any amendment of the Intoxicating Liquor Act. As I have already informed the Dáil it is intended to review the working of the Act when a reasonable experimental period has been completed.
