Vol. 191 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Douglas (Cork) Public Telephone.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the provision of a public telephone at Grange, Douglas, County Cork.

The use likely to be made of a public telephone at Grange, Douglas, County Cork, would not be sufficient to justify its provision.

Would the Minister take into account the fact that over 200 families are living in this district far removed from the nearest public telephone?

Everything is taken into account in arriving at a decision of this kind but the Post Office has, in principle, to pay its way.

In view of the fact that, in suburban areas, public telephones are made available for smaller numbers of people it should be made available in Grange.

I explained the matter fully during the course of the debate on my Estimate in the House in relation to the provision of telephones.
