I recently received the report of the Inter-Departmental Committee which the Deputy has in mind. The Committee's terms of reference were to examine and report on the general conditions prevailing on the inhabited islands around the coast and the practicability of improving them, rather than the question of transferring the islanders to the mainland. The Government have considered the report and an announcement of their intentions in the matter is being made today.
