Vol. 191 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Charollais Beef Cattle.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his Department have made any report on the Charollais breed of beef cattle; and if he intends to permit the importation of these cattle to this country.

As indicated in the statement issued by my Department on 22nd April last, we would, in principle, wish to be able to import this breed, but certain difficulties would be likely to arise for our export trade were we to do so. Because of this aspect, the Livestock Consultative Council was called together and recommended that no import be made in the circumstances. Should these change at any time the matter will be reconsidered.
