Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Development on Kildare Cutaway Bog.

126.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Forestry Division of his Department have acquired approximately 50 acres of cutaway bog at Narraghmore, County Kildare, for afforestation purposes; and, if so, when it is likely that preliminary development work on the bog will commence.

The Forestry Division of my Department has not yet acquired any lands for afforestation in the vicinity of Narraghmore Bog, but agreement to purchase an area of 27 acres in the adjoining townland of Calverstown Little has been reached with the owner and title is in course of clearance. Other lands in the area have also been inspected and enquiries about them are proceeding. At this stage it is not possible to state when work will commence in the area.

May I take it the acquisitions are for afforestation purposes?

For afforestation purposes.
