Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenders for Broadcast Programmes to Irish Troops in Congo.

155.

asked the Minister for Defence who were the contractors engaged by his Department to supply equipment and finished taped programmes and materials for the programmes which are broadcast by the Army to the Irishmen in the UN force in the Congo; if these contracts were offered for public tender; if the lowest tender was accepted in all cases; and, if not, if he will state the reason for this.

The only contract arranged in connection with the programmes which are broadcast to the Irish troops with the U.N. Force in the Congo was for the production of the programmes. The programme material is being supplied by the military authorities to the contractor. The contract was placed on the basis of competitive tendering and the lowest tender was accepted.

The contract for the production of the taped programmes was awarded to Stapleton Studios, Merrion Court, Merrion Row, Dublin.

Will the Taoiseach now explain what that has to do with the preceding question? He was chancing his arm as he usually is.

More than Homer nods.

It is not a question of nodding.

Deputy Sweetman could not make a mistake.
