Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford City Garda Personnel.

186.

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of officers and men of the Garda Síochána stationed in Waterford City at present.

The total number is 58, made up as follows: 1 Chief Superintendent, 1 Superintendent, 2 Inspectors, 12 Sergeants, 42 Gardaí.

Is the Minister aware that that number is insufficient to police a city of the size of Waterford?

I would not agree that it is insufficient but if the Deputy can give me any evidence that there is need for more police there I shall certainly consider it.

I can give that evidence.

Is it a matter for the Minister or the Commissioner?

I shall pass it on to the Commissioner.
