Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - E.S.B. Accounts: Disconnection of Supplies.

27.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction existing among electricity users at the arbitrary disconnection of supply by the Electricity Supply Board from users who may be behind in payment of accounts owing to temporary shortage of money; whether he is aware that such a practice is peculiar to the Electricity Supply Board and is not followed by ordinary business organisations; and if he will take steps, if necessary by introducing legislation, to require the Electricity Supply Board to modify its practice in this regard.

I am satisfied that the Electricity Supply Board are exercising their statutory powers in a moderate and reasonable manner and I do not propose to promote legislation to require the Board to modify their practice in this regard.
