Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mineral Development in South West Cork.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the position regarding each of the mineral development projects in Cork South West.

There are mineral development projects in progress in four areas in Cork South West.

At Allihies, exploration of the copper deposits is continuing under prospecting licences granted to the Emerald Isle Mining Co. Ltd., but it is understood that the stage has not yet been reached where the mine can be brought into production.

A State mining lease of the barytes deposits near Clonakilty was issued recently and it is understood that operations at the mine will commence in the near future.

At Curraghlickey, the production of slates, under State mining leases, is continuing.

At Derryginagh, near Bantry, exploration of the barytes deposits commenced recently under a prospecting licence.
