asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that twenty-three employees of the Electricity Supply Board working in the Lismore, County Waterford, area were unable to vote in the recent General Election; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

In order to ensure that as many electors as possible could vote at the recent general election, I extended the polling time to 9.30 p.m., which is the limit permitted by the Electoral Acts. I understand that the employees referred to by the Deputy finished work on polling day at the normal finishing hour, 6 p.m. I am not in a position to state whether or not they were prevented by the circumstances of their employment from voting. There is no legal obligation on any employer to transport his employees to the polls.
