Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cambridge Road (Dublin) Building Site.

78.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that in spite of the grave inconvenience caused to people in the Ringsend area of Dublin, who for lack of suitable accommodation in the area are displaced to outlying districts, a large site at Cambridge Road capable of accommodating a block of flats, a new school and play-grounds has under a Dublin Corporation Town Plan been allocated for industrial purposes; if so, whether he has approved of such decision; and what action he proposes to take.

I am aware that in the Dublin Corporation Planning Scheme certain lands fronting on Cambridge Road are zoned for industrial use. I have not given any decision on the Planning Scheme as it is intended that the Town and Regional Planning Acts, under which it was made, will shortly be replaced by new legislation.

Could the Minister say does "shortly" mean a month, three months or six months?

As soon as it can be brought into its final draft form. I cannot give the Deputy any absolutely reliable information as to when that will be.

I take it that until the Minister has approved, no action can be taken by the Corporation to go ahead with any plan for the industrialisation of a particular area?

That does not follow.

Is there any machinery whereby one can appeal to the Minister asking him to prevail on the Corporation to reconsider its decision?

There is, of course, the ordinary normal appeal procedure under the Town and Regional Planning Acts and if the question arises from the operation of these Acts the Minister can be brought into it.
