Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aid for Victims of Flood Damage.

87.

asked the Minister for Local Government what aid is being given by his Department to the various areas of the country where widespread damage has been caused by the recent floods.

My Department is co-operating fully with other Departments and with local authorities in the carrying out of repairs to public property. In so far as private housing is concerned I have drawn attention to the fact that grants under the Housing Acts are available to meet part of the cost of repairs to dwelling-houses, rendered necessary by storm damage.

Would the Minister say to what extent he has co-operated with other Departments? Could he give details?

I have been in touch with other Departments and they, in turn, have been in touch with me. We have been in touch with the various local authorities; they, in turn, have been in touch with us and we have been generally co-operating.
