Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of County Dublin Road Workers.

95.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a recent recommendation by the Labour Court that the wages of County Dublin Road workers be increased by 10/- per week is totally unsatisfactory; and if in view of the desirability of having local authority employees treated at least as well as industrial workers the Dublin County Manager will reconsider this whole question with the object of paying a fair wage to road workers.

My functions in relation to road workers' wages are confined to the consideration of such proposals as are submitted to me for sanction by the local authority. There is no proposal at present before me in relation to the wages of Dublin County Council road workers.

I understand that the claim of the road workers in question for an increase in wages is at present the subject of negotiation between the unions concerned and the local authority.
