Vol. 193 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Common Market: External Tariffs.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if the Government will publish, in a White Paper or in some other form, a reasonably detailed account of the present position of external tariffs applied by Ireland as compared with the present tariff position of the countries of the European Economic Community and with the tariff position, internal and external, which the European Economic Community hopes to reach by 1970.

Copies of the tariffs of the member countries of the European Economic Community, as operative prior to the 1st January, 1962, and of the common external tariff of the Community are available in the Library. The January, 1962, editions of the tariffs of the member countries will be available shortly. Copies of the Irish tariff transposed into the same nomenclature as those of the member countries and entitled "Draft Customs and Excise Tariff" are also available in the Library. This draft tariff enables comparisons to be made between Irish rates of duty and those in the tariffs of the member countries and in the common external tariff.
