Vol. 193 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Westmeath Rivers.

90.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when it is proposed to lay out the joint works drainage scheme of the Milltownpass River at Milltownpass, Mullingar, County Westmeath.

91.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when it is proposed to lay out the joint works drainage scheme of the Rochfortbridge River at Rochfortbridge, Mullingar, County Westmeath.

With your permission, a Cheann Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.

Investigation of the position in regard to the schemes on the Milltownpass and Rochfortbridge Rivers in Co. Westmeath has already commenced but it is not possible at this early stage to say if the work proposed is suitable for attention under the Land Project.

Is the Minister aware that numerous schemes in Counties Meath and Westmeath are held up for sanction because of disagreement between his Department and the counties concerned in regard to the building of bridges?

I am aware that such a difficulty has been raised by one of the local authorities there, but I am not conceding the allegation that this is the only difficulty that has been encountered in relation to these and some other schemes in that area.
