Vol. 193 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Profit on Cork City Bus Services.

102.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he can ascertain the net profit accruing to Córas Iompair Éireann as a result of the operation of the Cork City passenger services during the twelve months ended 31st December, 1961; and if he will state the amount.

The information sought by the Deputy is not shown separately in the accounts of C.I.E. furnished to me in accordance with Section 34 of the Transport Act, 1950.

C.I.E. is required to provide a public transport service throughout the country and to conduct the whole undertaking so as to ensure that, not later than 31st March, 1964, its expenditure shall not be greater than its revenue. It would be invidious, therefore, to prepare and publish separate accounts for different areas of the country.
