asked the Minister for Local Government whether in view of the intolerable position caused by the increase in rates during the past number of years, he will consider this year making road costs a national charge.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Costs as National Charge.
47.
Mr. Donnellan
An increasing proportion of the total cost of road works has been met from State funds in recent years and in the current financial year. These increases in grants have had the effect of keeping local expenditure on roads fairly stable, notwithstanding successive increases in the total road expenditure in each of the last four years. It is not proposed to adopt the suggestion made by the Deputy.
