Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Mayo Crop Losses.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the payment of compensation to small farmers in the north west of County Mayo whose crops were destroyed by storms and floods last year; or if he will have free seed provided for them.

The special arrangements announced by the Government last November, following the autumn storms, include the granting of loans to farmers by county councils at a subsidised interest rate of two per cent. per annum for the purchase of seeds and fertiliser. I do not consider that the measures proposed by the Deputy are necessary or practicable.
