Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar Exports.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will seek markets for the export of sugar so as to offset the reduction of beet contracts which is imposing undue hardship on farmers in all the tillage counties.

Everything possible is being done by my Department and the other Departments concerned and by Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teoranta to widen the outlets and increase the sales of Irish sugar and sugar goods abroad. The Deputy will realise, of course, that the market for sugar is a saturated one and that world prices are extremely low.
