Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Travel for Persons Leaving to Seek Employment.

79.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will provide free travel vouchers for those who must leave the State to seek employment until such time as work is made available for them in this country.

It is not proposed to provide free travel vouchers for persons desirious of seeking employment outside the State.

Is the Minister not aware that emigrants from all over this country who, while at home are in receipt of unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit, send back to this country hundreds of thousands of pounds each year and thereby bolster up the economy? Is it not the least the Minister should do, to provide these people with free travel vouchers?

That is an argument, not a question.
