Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Duty Payments on Oil and Petrol.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if Coras Iompair Éireann pay duty on diesel oil and petrol used by them.

Córas Iompair Éireann pay duty at the full rate of 2s. 2d. per gallon on diesel oil used in their lorries. In common with other operators of bus services, Córas Iompair Éireann pay duty at a special reduced rate of 1s. 8d. per gallon on diesel oil used in their buses. Diesel oil does not bear any duty unless it is used as fuel in a road motor vehicle and Córas Iompair Éireann do not, therefore, pay any duty on diesel oil used in railway locomotives.

All petrol used by Córas Iompair Éireann bears duty at the full rate of 2s. 9¼d. a gallon.
