Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Millable Wheat Declared Unmillable.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what action he proposes to take against millers who have purchased wheat and declared it as unmillable, where on test it has been discovered independently that such wheat was millable and in good condition; what he proposes to do in this regard; if he will compel the millers to make restitution to the farmers concerned; and whether many such cases have been directed to his attention.

The responsibility for producing flour of the standard required by consumers rests on the millers and I have no power to compel a miller to accept wheat which in his opinion is not suitable for the production of flour of that standard.

34.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his Department have any means at their disposal for finding out if wheat purchased as unmillable by millers is now used by them for the manufacture of flour; if he will make a statement on this matter.

I am satisfied that wheat purchased as unmillable is not being used by flour millers for the manufacture of flour.
