Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Law Reform Proposals.

51.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any proposals of law reform are contemplated by him in relation to the work of his Department; and, if so, the nature of such proposals, and the probable date when legislation implementing them will be introduced.

As I have already announced, I propose to introduce legislation to amend the existing law in relation to Copyright, Patents, Trade Marks and Company Law. Amending legislation will be introduced as soon as it is ready. The question of amending the Industrial Relations Act is also being considered. Certain other branches of legislation operated by my Department are under examination at the moment but until this examination is completed it would be premature to say whether, and if so when, amending legislation will be introduced.

Can the Minister give any date for the company law legislation?

I should say it would be very shortly. I cannot give a precise date.

This session?

Very likely.
