Vol. 193 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports of Horses.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the estimated number of working type horses of all ages exported from the Republic each year since 1959 up to and including 27th November, 1961, the estimated value of such annual exports, the average number of working type horses exported weekly since 27th November last up to the latest available date, and the value of such exports.

The headings of the Official Export List under which exports of horses and ponies are brought to account, distinguish between bloodstock and other animals. Particulars of the types of exported animals, other than bloodstock, are not collected in the basic export documents and it is not, therefore, possible to give, separately, the number of working type horses exported.

Bearing generally on the Deputy's question, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the number and value of horses and ponies, other than bloodstock, permanently exported in each of the years 1959 and 1960 and in the period 1st January to 30th November, 1961, and in the month of December, 1961, the latest period for which these figures are available.

Following is the statement:—

NUMBER and value of horses (including ponies), other than bloodstock, permanently exported in each year 1959, 1960, in the period 1st January to 30th November, 1961 and month of December, 1961.
