Vol. 193 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hackney Car Accidents.

94.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of (a) fatal and (b) non-fatal accidents in which licensed hackney cars have been involved in each of the last five years.

May I draw the Deputy's attention to the annual return of road accidents that is prepared by the Commissioner, Garda Síochána and that is available in the Library. That return includes not only the figures sought (except for the year 1957 when the figures were not compiled) but also other figures which are necessary for any comparative purposes, including the number of vehicles of different types on the roads and the number of accidents in which each type was involved.

For this occasion, however, I have had the figures extracted and they are given in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

The following is the statement:—
