Vol. 193 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvements in Dublin Garda Stations.

101.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he considers that the present sleeping, sanitation, and washing facilities provided for Gardaí at Kevin Street and Fitzgibbon Street stations, Dublin, are satisfactory; and whether he is considering making any improvements in these stations in the near future.

It is considered that the facilities provided for Gardaí at Fitzgibbon Street are satisfactory. The facilities at Kevin Street, however, are not satisfactory.

On 29th November, 1961, in reply to a question by the Deputy regarding conditions at Kevin Street, I stated that the Commissioner of Public Works had then under consideration the report of the professional staff on a scheme of adaptation works at this centre.

The Commissioners of Public Works have now informed me that having regard to the age of the present building and its general unsatisfactory layout, the expenditure of a large capital sum on the adaptation works necessary would not be an economic proposition, and that the question of erecting a new station is being actively pursued.
