asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the names of the persons recently appointed by him to the Board set up under the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961, the qualifications of each person so appointed, and, where they represent particular bodies, the bodies so represented.

The members of the Board of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards are:—

Mr. Colm Barnes, Chairman

Ordinary Members.

Mr. J.D. Barry,

Mr. Leo Crawford,

Dr. V.E. Davidson,

Mr. James Larkin,

Dr. D.T. Long,

Mr. A.P. Reynolds,

Mr. M. Rigby-Jones,

Professor T.S. Wheeler.

Mr. Barnes is past President of the Federation of Irish Industries and Joint Managing Director of Glen Abbey Textiles, Tallaght; Mr. Barry is vice-Principal of the College of Technology, Bolton Street; Mr. Crawford is Joint Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions; Dr. Davidson is Chief Chemist of Clover Meats Ltd., Waterford; Mr. Larkin is General Secretary of the Workers' Union of Ireland; Dr. Long is Chief Chemist of Harringtons & Goodlass Wall Ltd., Cork; Mr. Reynolds is a former chairman of C.I.E.; Mr. Rigby-Jones is a Director of Irish Ropes Ltd., Droichead Nua; Professor Wheeler is Professor of Chemistry at University College, Dublin.

The members of the Board do not represent any particular bodies but, in accordance with the terms of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961, have been selected by me by reason of their attainments in scientific research applied to industry or because they are representative of industry or of persons employed in industry or are capable of giving substantial practical assistance in the work of the Institute.
