Vol. 194 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Special Allowance.

51.

asked the Minister for Defence if it is proposed to grant a special allowance under the Military Service Pensions Acts to Patrick J. McGlinchey, Moneellan, The Cross Roads, Killygordon, County Donegal; and, if so, when.

Before I can grant a special allowance under the Army Pensions Acts to the person referred to by the Deputy, I need to be satisfied—

(a) that the Service (1917-1921) Medical which was issued to him some time ago was duly awarded in respect of continuous membership of Óglaigh na h-Éireann (I.R.A.) or kindred organisation during the period of three months which ended on the 11th July 1921; and

(b) that he is incapable of self-support by reason of permanent infirmity.

As regards (a), enquiries are being made of the former officers of the unit concerned for the purpose of establishing that he had continuous service during the period of three months in question. If that is established, the question of having him medically examined will receive consideration.

I am unable to say when the enquiries in the case will be completed but every effort is being made to expedite a decision.
