Vol. 194 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Diesel Locomotives.

33.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether it is a fact that the drivers of new diesel locomotives will not require to have the same degree of knowledge of repair and maintenance procedure in respect of diesel engines as was customary for drivers in charge of steam locomotives; and, if so, if he is satisfied that this fact will not appreciably militate against public safety or comfort on the railways.

The answer to both parts of this question is in the affirmative but there has been no general change in training methods since the training scheme for Diesel electric locomotive drivers was instituted.
