Vol. 194 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scandinavian Design Group.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is a fact as stated by the Director of Córas Tráchtála, on Telefís Éireann, that the Government will carry out the recommendations of the Scandinavian group recently invited to Ireland by Córas Tráchtála; and, if so, what Government Department will have responsibility for carrying through such proposals.

No decision has yet been come to on the recommendations referred to or as to what Government Department or Departments should have responsibility in the matter.

45.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the cost of bringing the Scandinavian design experts to Ireland for their recent survey and report.

This is a matter of internal administration on which the Deputy must approach Córas Tráchtála directly for any information he desires. It is, of course, stated in the foreword to the report that no professional fees were accepted by the members of the group.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Scandinavian group recently in Ireland exceeded their functions in condemning the teaching of art, sculpture, painting, design and crafts in Ireland.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a question on the 22nd February, 1962, the report was commissioned by Córas Tráchtála. I would refer the Deputy to the following passage from the foreword to the report: "In order to avoid the rigidity imposed by terms of reference the group were asked to select for inclusion in the report those matters which from their own observation it seemed most pertinent to examine."
