asked the Minister for Finance if in respect of the financial years 1960/61 and 1961/62 respectively he will state the yield of customs and excise duties in the form of a reply of 26th April 1960, amending the retail price of cigarettes as therein stated to the actual price, on the basis that it is (a) the first year in which such alteration was made, (b) the second year and (c) a year in which the full effect of the alteration was felt.

The figures shown represent the yields derived from each segment of the main rates of duty corresponding to the equivalents indicated. They have no relation to the selling prices of the commodities concerned and allowance for trade margins is not, therefore, necessary.
The corresponding particulars relating to the year 1961/62 are not yet available. If the Deputy puts down a question on the subject in about a week's time I expect then to be in a position to furnish the information requested.
