Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Tuberculosis Services.

25.

asked the Minister for Health the amount which was spent out of the Exchequer during the financial year 1961-62, and the estimated amount to be spent during the financial year 1962-63, on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in human beings.

Exchequer expenditure on the health services, including the tuberculosis services, consists of Health Services Grant payments to health authorities under the Health Services (Financial Provisions) Act, 1947; and the manner of payment of grant instalments to health authorities does not permit of precise allocation to a particular service of amounts of grant paid to health authorities during a particular year. The amount payable from the Exchequer on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in respect of the year 1961/62 is estimated at £875,000 and in respect of the year 1962/63 is estimated at £862,000, representing, in each case, one-half of the health authorities' estimated expenditure on those services during the years concerned.
