Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation Awards to State Employees.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of compensation awarded under the Workmen's Compensation Acts in respect of death or personal injuries to State employees for the years 1960/ 61 and 1961/62.

Payments under the Workmen's Compensation Acts in respect of injury or death of State employees amounted to £52,849 in 1960/61. The expenditure for 1961/ 62 is expected to be approximately £49,000; final figures will be available when the Appropriation Accounts are presented. Certain employees e.g. those employed on arterial drainage by the Office of Public Works and those employed on works under the Special Employment Schemes Office are covered by insurance. The expenditure on workmen's compensation in respect of these employees, which is borne by the insurance company, is not known and is not included in the figures that I have given.
