Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Bogs.

40.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that there is an urgent need for the carrying out of drainage work at Clonsoghey bog near Mountmellick, County Laois; that many local turf cutters are anxious that suitable grants be provided so that this bog will be drained and that this year's turf crop may be safely harvested by the many local turf cutters; and if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

The answer to the first part of the question is no and to the second part no.

The question of light cleaning some hundreds of perches of drains is under consideration at present and the work will probably be done this summer.

41.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received representations from Mr. Thomas O'Meara, Tubrid, Shinrone, County Offaly in regard to the drainage of Curralanty bog; if so, what is the cause of the delay in obtaining a report from the local officer; and if work will be undertaken without delay as many people are unable to cut turf on this bog because of the lack of drainage.

As I informed the Deputy in my letter of 13th April last, this proposal will be considered on its merits when the programme of bog drainage works for the coming summer is being prepared.
