Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retail Price of Potatoes.

65.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the retail price of potatoes in Dublin has increased within a fortnight from 2/2d. per stone to 4/8d. per stone on 27th April; and if he will immediately take such steps as are necessary to fix the maximum price at a reasonable level so as to prevent exploitation of the public.

The retail price of potatoes is influenced by supply and demand and there is no lack of competition in the sale of this article of food. I see no grounds for intervention in the manner proposed.
