Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Tipperary Cottages.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in giving sanction to proposals for the building of cottages in North Tipperary, which were placed before his Department last July.

There are no proposals for the building of cottages in North Tipperary awaiting sanction in my Department since last July.

A compulsory purchase order for acquisition of sites for 40 rural cottages was received from the county council in July last but documents necessary to establish the validity of the order were not furnished to my Department until December. Objections have been lodged in respect of ten of the sites and it will be necessary to hold a public inquiry into the proposal to acquire them. The remaining sites have been the subject of correspondence with the council and replies to some of the points raised are still outstanding.

Even if the local authority were slow in producing documents to the Minister, would the Minister say what was the delay from December last until June?

What June? We have not got them even yet. We have not yet got all the information from the county council.

That is what I wanted to know.
