asked the Minister for Health the total number of persons and their dependants now entitled to free medical services.

I presume the Deputy has in mind entitlement to the general medical service.

At the latest date for which the information requested is available, namely, 31st March, 1962, the total number of persons, other than dependants, included on the General Medical Services Registers of health authorities was 274,933 and the number of their dependants was 513,107, making a total of 788,040 persons.
