Vol. 195 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report of Council of Education.

47.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons why the Report of the Council of Education, dated September, 1960, did not appear until 24th April, 1962.

While it is a fact that the Council held its last meeting on the 30th September, 1960, the English version of the report was not presented to me until the 23rd November, 1960. It was necessary subsequent to this to complete the preparation of an Irish version of the report and to arrange for printing. The length of time involved in the process of printing was such that the printed copies of the report were not delivered until shortly before Easter. Publication was not, therefore, possible before the 24th April, 1962.

Will the Minister say if a copy of the report was sent to all Members of the Oireachtas?

The Deputies would know if they got it. I do not think it has been sent.

It has been sent to the various educational bodies and copies placed in the Library.

Will the Minister try to ensure that it will be sent to every member of the Dáil and Seanad?

I will see what can be arranged.

I think the Minister ought to promise that he will.

It is in the Library anyway, but I will see if it can be arranged.

I think the Minister should.
