Vol. 195 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Laois.

16.

andMr. K. Egan asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the Electricity Supply Board propose to extend rural electrification to the Brittas and Castlecuffe area in County Laois.

Following the recent decision of the Government to provide increased subsidy to enable the rural electrification scheme to be extended to areas which heretofore failed to qualify for development, the Electricity Supply Board expect that the electrification of the Castlecuffe area, which includes Brittas, will commence before the end of this year.

Is the Minister aware that on 2nd May, 1962, I conveyed that information to the people in the districts concerned and, may I ask him, too, if he is aware that last Saturday a deputation led by Mr. William McEvoy called on me to convey his thanks and that of——

Did he thank the Deputy for withdrawing the subsidy that held us up for five years?

The Taoiseach should not get cross. On 2nd May, I conveyed that information to the people of Castlecuffe and there is no use in Fianna Fáil Deputies trying to cash in on it.

The Deputy could not have received the congratulations of these people, were it not that the subsidy that was taken away by the Deputy's Government was restored.

I am glad that Mr. McEvoy knew to whom to offer his congratulations.
