Vol. 195 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Mayo Congestion.

25.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the acquisition of the lands of Haran in the townland of Tawnyinagh (Tavneena), East Mayo; and if the Land Commission have taken any other steps to relieve the serious congestion in this townland.

The proceedings instituted by the Land Commission, in November, 1960, for acquisition of these lands, comprising 96 acres, are now well advanced but it is not yet possible to indicate what the final outcome will be.

Efforts to acquire other lands for relief of congestion in this locality are continuing. About eighteen months ago, the possibility of acquiring a nearby holding was examined but proceedings did not prove feasible.

Could the Minister say if the question of migrating some of the tenants from that townland to other areas has been considered?

I understand that the question of migration has been considered in connection with this area but that the migrants were not forthcoming.
