Vol. 195 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reports of Department of Education.

30.

asked the Minister for Education at what date he expects to have published the Annual Reports of his Department for the years 1959-60, 1960-61 and 1961-62; and the reasons why there is invariably an inordinate delay in the publication of these reports.

The annual report for the year 1959-60 is in the hands of the printers and it is hoped that it will be published at an early date. I regret that it is not possible, at this stage, to forecast the date of publication of the annual report for 1960-61. Preparation of the material for 1961-62 cannot begin until the various statistical returns for the school year (including those relating to primary, secondary and vocational school examinations still to be held) have been completed.

Delay in the publication of the annual reports is due to—

(1) the amount of time that must necessarily elapse before the various statistical returns can be assembled and collated;

(2) pressure of other Departmental work requiring priority and

(3) printing difficulties.

Special efforts are being made, however, to expedite publication of the annual reports in future.

Will they publish it in Irish and English?

They will, yes—as is proper.
