Vol. 195 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois and Offaly Road Repairs.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will provide sufficient money to repair the accommodation and bog road from the Portlaoise-Abbeyleix county road west by Mr. Martin Grant's house to the railway bridge at Colt, Ballyroan, County Laois, so that a good job may be done to this road.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will take steps to have money made available without delay to repair the bog road from the county road at Edward Duffy's west and south to Matthew Killeen's turf bank and a further branch north to Pat Joe Kenehan's turf bank at Endrim and Clonlyon Glebe, Ferbane, County Offaly, in view of the general use and importance of this bog road.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to repair the bog road from the county road at Thomas Tully's turf bank east to Martin Moran's turf bank at Boheradurrow and Mullaghakaraun, Banagher, County Offaly; and if he will have a further inspection carried out as soon as possible, so that this bog road may be put in first-class repair.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make available money to repair the gullet and the bog road from the main Derrycoffey bog road east to Christy Maguire's turf bank at Derrycoffey, Croghan, County Offaly; and if he will undertake a special inspection of this important work, so as to make sure that a satisfactory job will be undertaken.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 8 to 11 together.

Particulars of these four works were given on 14th November, 1961 to all the Deputies for the constituency.

The works have since been done.

Might I ask the Minister to answer the Question I asked him in No. 8? I asked him if he would provide sufficient money for that particular road. I am well aware of the reply that has been given to the Minister but the question I asked was whether he was prepared to supply sufficient money.

The county engineer has certified that the work is satisfactorily done.

Arising out of Question No. 9, surely the Minister does not tell me that that work has been carried out.

The county engineer has certified that it is carried out.

Will the Minister accept it from me that it is not true that the work has been carried out?

I have accepted the engineer's report.

Does the Minister tell me that in his office there is a certificate that the work was satisfactorily carried out?

The engineer has certified that.

Arising out of Question No. 10, I asked the Minister to have a further inspection made to see that the work has been properly carried out. When is it proposed to carry out that special inspection?

I do not see why I should ask for a further inspection. The county engineer has certified that the work is completed.

Are the Office of Public Works satisfied with that?

They are.

Arising out of Question No. 11, may I ask the Minister for Finance whether he will undertake a special inspection to make sure that the work has been carried out properly? Will the Minister give the House the date on which the county engineer certified the completion of these works in a satisfactory manner?

That work was completed on 1st February.

May I take it that the engineer's certificate is dated 1st February?

I do not know what the date is. He certified that the work was finished on 1st February.

And the Office of Public Works are quite satisfied?

May I ask the Minister if there is any check on the accuracy of these reports?

That is a separate question.

What I want to know from the Minister is whether he is satisfied that the work has been satisfactorily carried out.

The Deputy has asked that question several times.

I was not answered.

The Deputy was answered.

Who is asking whom? The Minister will have many more questions to answer next week.
