Vol. 195 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensioners.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons at present in receipt of civil service pensions who will not receive increases in their pensions under the recent Budget proposals; and what proportion that number is of the total number of persons at present in receipt of civil service pensions.

The Budget provision for pensions increases will bring all Civil Service pensioners who retired before the pay revision of 1st November, 1955, up to the level of their equivalent colleagues who retired with the benefit of that pay revision. The number of pensioners who retired on or after the 1st November, 1955, is approximately 1,450 or approximately 44 per cent. of the total number of Civil Service pensioners.

Does the Minister propose to indicate to State-sponsored bodies that they should follow the same pattern?

We have not thought of that, yet anyway.

Will the Minister think of it between now and the Finance Bill?

I would rather wait to see if they will take the initiative themselves first.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance how many persons at present in receipt of civil service pensions retired from the service in the period between 31st October, 1952, and 1st November, 1955; and what is the average annual increase of pension which will be received by these pensioners as from 1st August, 1962, under the Budget proposals.

The number of persons at present in receipt of civil service pensions who retired between 1st November, 1952, and 31st October, 1955, inclusive, is approximately 520. Particulars of the average annual increase in these pensions will not be available until the calculations necessary for the payment of increases from the 1st August next have been completed.
