Vol. 195 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Obscene Literature.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to press reports of the import of obscene literature from agents in America into Northern Ireland; and if he will take steps to see that this pernicious trash be not permitted to enter this State.

I have seen the press reports referred to by the Deputy. As I said in reply to a similar question on 15th March, 1960, the importation of any obscene printed matter is prohibited under the customs laws and I am satisfied that the prohibition is strictly enforced by customs personnel.
